Meeting 08.12.08 DetailsThanks to Andrew Johnson (info@wrage.co.uk) for supplying the details of the meeting seen below; The meeting was called by the Grange councillor Denise Jones, who spoke about the impact the site would have in Somerford and Grange, mostly problems with dust, pollution and traffic. The number of lorries was estimated to be at least 80 in and 80 out each day! Councillor David Jones, who is the planning committee Chair, gave a presentation, detailing the sit, and how big it would be when joined with Hampshire's site, and how detrimental it will be. Access would be from the A35 at the 'Pick your own' road. Leader of the council, Cllr Griffiths also spoke and explained what to do to object and how it would be a disaster for Christchurch. The traffic issue seemed uppermost in their minds, as Peter Martin, WRAGE's spokesman, also spoke and explained how it was the weight of numbers that worked to stop Walkford, and that Hampshire complained at the time that they had so many letters that they had to hire two temps to type them up. He urged people to write in and give a good list of reasons why they objected. There were forms to complete in the hall that could be used to object, and information on reasons to object. The turnout at the meeting was reasonable, probably about 50 I'd estimate, and quite vocal too. People weren't happy obviously, about having a gravel site so close to housing in Burton and Somerford and Grange.
